Uncomplicating Life Through Therapy

Namaste! I’m Mamtha Rajesh

Trusted Psychotherapist, Breathwork practitioner and mentor

I work with individual adults and couples to help them discover their inner world to create changes which will lead them towards living in peace with themselves and harmony with others. I use an eclectic approach of Transactional Analysis,
Psychodrama, Breathwork, along with a psycho-spiritual framework. I entered this field in the year 2000.

As a college goer, I had no idea I would end up being a mental health professional. It was completely accidental.

What inspired me to become a mental health professional?

Carl Jung coined the phrase “wounded healer” to describe a person who uses their own past experiences of pain, trauma or vulnerability to empathise deeply with their clients to provide understanding and support. It was only when I began my training in counselling that I became aware of the many traumas that I had been through. Birth trauma due to being kept in incubator away from my mother, school trauma of being shamed for being poor at maths and science. These and a few other childhood experiences had greatly shaped my subconscious understanding of myself, my worth, my place in the world and therefore my responses to the world.

In 2006 I was undergoing an intense training program where it was mandatory for me to be in personal therapy myself, and I began to fully recognise my emotional wounds. I began working on myself and this journey of looking within and looking
deeper is something that I haven’t stopped since then. As an ethical practitioner, I continue to be in regular personal therapy and under supervision. Along the way I tried psychodrama, transactional analysis, 5 elements breathwork, past life
regression, spiritual practises, inner child healing.

I am a life-long learner and have always been in some form of training program since 2000.
Discovering an emotional block or wound in myself is like a red rag being waved in front of a bull. I cannot not work on healing and unravelling it to get past it or grow beyond it.

The entry of 5 Elements Breathwork in my life was my watershed moment and breathwork session eventually became my tipping point. It has opened multiple doors for me – healing physically issues, releasing deep rooted emotional wounds and opening me up for spiritual growth. So much so that I divide my life into two – BEFORE breathwork and AFTER breathwork.

I understood the purpose of my life in this lifetime by undertaking past life regression. One of the ways of fulfilling that purpose is through helping those I can in their quest of healing themselves. With that in mind I founded Utsmaya along with Mihika
Rajesh, a child psychologist to create and hold a healing space.

I thrive on pushing myself to grow. I feared being visible to the world. A part of me feared being judged. Wanting to overcome my fear of putting myself out there, I entered a public speaking reality show. “Super Speaker - season 3” a contest to use the power of speech to inspire and impact people, had close to two lakhs registrations for round 1. Over 14 months, 5 rounds and multiple challenges , I made it to the top 10 finalists. It was ironic that as part of the Super 10 I would be standing in front of judges to be judged! I finished my Super Speaker journey as the Runner Up of season 3.

Being a counselor myself, taking personal therapy from Ms Mamatha has been very helpful for building self awareness and enabling my personal growth. Her ability to provide empathetic listening and a safe space helps me to get in touch with myself at a much deeper level. At the end of every session she ensures I am feeling safe and okay to take care of myself, before closing the session, hence not being very rigid with timing (unlike most counselors who are extremely particular on closing sessions at a specific time).

The non judgmental space I got in her sessions for my sharing, reflections and the effective role plays, interventions helped me grow as a counselor myself.  I would recommend Ms Mamatha's therapy sessions specially to Counselors who are doing their personal work along with seeing clients
